Missy Bennett

Teacher, Songwriter, musician, mom, and grandma

Daughter of Sarge and Barbara Haskell, "Missy," as she's affectionately been called all her life by friends and family, grew up loving music.  Her earliest childhood memories include piano lessons (before her feet could reach the pedals),  sitting at her daddy's knee and singing along while he'd play "Johnny B. Goode" or "Long Tall Texan," and waking up to her mama singing some funny, made up, song encouraging her "baby birds to come get their worms."  Her grandmother, Wilma Haskell, was a pastor's wife and piano player.  She was probably Missy's biggest influence to learn to play piano; and eventually become a music teacher and worship leader.

Missy has two bachelors degrees.  One is in Pastoral Ministry from World Evangelism Bible College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The other is in Family Studies and Psychology, from Corban University in Salem, Oregon.

She's taught piano and voice privately for over 30 years.  She has also taught various music and fine arts classes in private Christian schools for nearly 20 years.

Another passion is writing original elementary scripts and musicals.  She has dozens of short plays and skits that students from kindergarten through high school have performed.  Many include her original music compositions.

Through the years, Missy has been writing music that reflects her personal walk with the Lord; through trials and deep pain, as well as times of great victory and joy.  Losing her mom, her closest friend, suddenly in 2021 was perhaps one of the deepest valleys she has ever had to walk through.  She has watched her dad, who is also her pastor, also work through this deep grief.  His unwavering faith and trust in Jesus to carry him has been inspiring and healing.  Through this time she has been able to connect through her music.  She has spent hours in recording sessions with her dad.  Together they have seen some of their dreams of creating and recording music become a reality.

Missy lives in Salem, Oregon, with her husband James, and youngest daughter Joely.  Missy and James have five daughters and one son, together with several sons-in-law and one daughter in-law; plus six beautiful grandchildren, with one more on the way.
